Johns Manville MinWool Sound Attenuation Fire Batts (SAFB) are lightweight, flexible mineral wool batts engineered to control noise in metal-stud wall cavities of interior partitions and exterior walls, or above suspended ceiling systems. Manufactured from inorganic fibers derived from basalt — a naturally occurring volcanic rock — and a thermosetting resin binder, the batts are non-combustible and moisture-resistant, making them well suited to commercial and multi-family acoustical and fire-rated assemblies.
As excellent sound absorbers, SAFB improves wall assembly Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings by up to 10 dB. The product has a melting point in excess of 2000°F (1093°C) with a Flame Spread of 0 and Smoke Developed of 0 per ASTM E84. SAFB is GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified for low chemical emissions and is widely specified in UL fire-rated wall and ceiling assemblies.
