About the design
The Tongue chair by Arne Jacobsen was designed in 1955 as part of his complete concept for the Munkegaard School in Denmark. Developed immediately after the Ant™, it reflects an early stage in Jacobsen’s work with moulded plywood, where structure and form are resolved in a single gesture. Originally later used in the SAS Royal Hotel in barstool form, the design forms part of Jacobsen’s
broader exploration of industrially produced seating in the 1950s. This reintroduction presents the chair in coloured ash veneer finishes—Black, White, and Olive Green—bringing a precise material update to an archival design.
