"The simplicity and ease of development and publication pleasantly surprised me”

Elise Monot - 2018-12-20

Bouvet is a manufacturer of multi-material doors and windows in France. We’ve talked to Laurent Ternon, Marketing and Communication Manager at Bouvet, about BIM and their BIM strategy.

Bouvet SA is a French family company with a prosperous history. Three generations have shifted place since 1921; first it was Louis, then André and now Patrick Bouvet is leading the company. Today, Bouvet has 700 employees and the group, as a whole with its subsidiary Minco, employs 1,000 people.

“Innovation is at the heart of our strategy, as Bouvet is one of the very few French manufacturers to extrude its own PVC profiles”, says Laurent.

Bouvet has an original approach, combining PVC, fibreglass and aluminium to obtain the most efficient joinery. Thermal, acoustic insulation, aesthetic considerations, economic choices, and durability, each criterion is taken into consideration for the benefit of the end user purchasing the windows, sliding windows, entrance doors or roller shutters.

“The satisfaction of our professional customers is our top priority”, says Laurent.

He stresses Bouvet’s culture of building quality relations, which leads them to constantly improve their processes.

“Our products are certified with ISO 9001, NF, CE. All these standards guarantee product performance and safety compliance”, he says.

The fields of applications of Bouvet doors and windows are mainly private markets, in new construction and renovation, and in individual, collective and social housing. Bouvet works with professional installers to guarantee the proper installation of the doors and windows. And more recently, Bouvet is developing their target group to architects, design offices and developers.

To better meet the needs of prescribers, Bouvet committed to a BIM strategy in early 2018. Laurent observes that for Bouvet, the process of “going BIM” was very natural and without any particular problems.

"The simplicity and ease of development and publication pleasantly surprised me”, he says.

Bouvet started publishing their products in the BIMobject Cloud in May 2018.

“Having BIM objects is a way for us to strengthen the prescription approach that we wish to develop, by providing innovative tools and anticipating the future demands of clients. This is a real competitive advantage”, says Laurent.

He goes on to note that the ease of publication, the exchanges with the technical teams and the generation of contacts have been to his full satisfaction, and have confirmed Bouvet’s  BIM strategy.

“We will continue this BIM approach and develop new ranges”, he says.

Laurent is convinced that BIM will become essential in construction and plays an important role in the overall digitalisation of construction. BIM requires both companies and employees to adapt themselves to changes in the sector. He finishes the interview with a final advice for other  manufacturers:

“Don’t wait too long. Start to prepare and initiate a BIM approach quickly, to not be left behind.”
