EcoReadyBath Configurable BIM Model for Prefabricated Bathroom Pods

The EcoReadyBath BIM model is a configurable planning object for the early design and coordination of prefabricated bathroom pods.

It was developed for architects, BIM coordinators, MEP designers, and project teams who want to assess how a bathroom pod integrates into the building model before key spatial and technical interfaces are fixed.

Rather than representing a single fixed bathroom layout, the model lets you adjust selected parameters to explore different pod configurations and project requirements.

    Configurable parameters include:

    • Shower tray: 800–1,500 mm, adjustable in 100 mm increments
    • Pod length: standard 2,400 mm, adjustable up to 3,500 mm
    • Service shaft: variable horizontal width
    • WC drainage position: adjustable within the defined connection zone
    • Door position: coordinated with required clearances around the shower and WC area
    • Pod floor build-up: approx. 90–150 mm
    • Internal clear height: from approx. 2,250 mm
    • Maximum transport height: approx. 2,840 mm
    • Selected accessories: shower mixer, basin mixer, shower caddy, toilet paper holder, toilet brush and mirror can be included or excluded from the model

Use the model for early coordination

The BIM object provides a practical starting point for checking:

    • pod dimensions and required installation space,
    • bathroom layout and room geometry,
    • service shaft positioning,
    • drainage and MEP interface zones,
    • structural and adjacent building interfaces,
    • floor and height build-ups,
    • door and sanitaryware positions,
    • repeated bathroom types within larger developments.

For projects with multiple identical or similar bathrooms, early use of the model can also support type optimisation and standardisation before detailed design and series production.

    Prefabrication starts before production

Bathroom pod dimensions, shafts, drainage, structural openings, MEP connections and installation requirements are closely interdependent. Coordinating these elements early helps project teams identify potential constraints while there is still flexibility to resolve them.

The downloadable EcoReadyBath BIM model represents a configurable example solution for planning purposes. Final bathroom pods are developed specifically for each project and coordinated with its architectural, structural, MEP, accessibility, finish and installation requirements.

Download the model, test the configuration and coordinate the critical interfaces early.

    • General Description of Bathroom Pod Construction

EcoReadyBath bathroom pods are based on a steel floor frame system and developed as project-specific prefabricated bathroom units.

      • The floor structure is formed on a steel frame.
      • Wall structures are made from cold-formed steel profiles mechanically connected with screws and bolts.
      • Wall cladding is selected to provide the required structural performance and suitability for lightweight steel-frame construction.
      • The ceiling construction consists of layered composite panels with a total thickness of approximately 24 mm.
      • Pod geometry is developed in accordance with project-specific requirements, applicable regulations and required clearances. Where relevant, accessibility requirements such as DIN 18040-1 and DIN 18040-2 can be taken into account.
      • Final pod weight depends on dimensions, structural build-up, finishes and sanitary equipment.

For initial structural and BIM coordination, the following indicative planning loads may be assumed:

      • Bathroom pods up to 4 m²: approx. 330–350 kg/m²
      • Bathroom pods from 4 to 6 m²: approx. 250–300 kg/m²
      • Bathroom pods above 7 m²: approx. 180–250 kg/m²

These values are intended for early-stage coordination only. Final module weight is confirmed during project-specific design development.

      Configurable BIM Model Parameters

The EcoReadyBath BIM object allows selected geometric and equipment parameters to be adjusted for early planning and coordination.

      • Shower tray width: 800–1,500 mm, adjustable in 100 mm increments
      • WC drainage position: adjustable within a defined 200 mm range to the left or right
      • Pod length: standard 2,400 mm; maximum 3,500 mm
      • Service shaft: horizontal dimension adjustable
      • Door position: controlled in relation to required clearances around the shower and WC zone
      • Optional accessories: shower mixer, basin mixer, shower caddy, toilet paper holder, toilet brush and mirror can be switched on or off in the model
      • Pod floor build-up: approximately 90–150 mm
      • Internal clear height: minimum approximately 2,250 mm
      • Maximum transport height: approximately 2,840 mm

The BIM model is intended as a configurable planning and coordination tool. Final bathroom pod dimensions, construction, interfaces and equipment are developed specifically for each project.
