Heinen Doors: Belgian steel engineering since 1947
Heinen Doors designs and manufactures steel and stainless steel doors and frames, developed and produced in Belgium, at the heart of Europe, since 1947. This industrial base gives Heinen full control of the entire process, from design through to manufacturing. Every door that leaves the factory reflects the same commitment: performance that holds up on site, year after year.
A pioneer in passive fire protection
Heinen's expertise was forged in response to one of Belgium's darkest moments. In 1967, the fire at the « À l'Innovation » (INNO) department store in Brussels claimed 251 lives. This tragedy, among other major disasters, led to a significant tightening of fire safety regulations across Europe and revealed the urgent need for compartmentation solutions able to limit both the spread of fire and heat transfer.
Within this context, Heinen Doors developed a steel fire door incorporating a specific chemical process applied to its structural components. This treatment reduced thermal transfer and limited the rise in steel temperature during prolonged exposure to fire.
In 1973, Heinen Doors successfully tested this fully thermally insulated steel fire door. Laboratory tests demonstrated fire resistance exceeding 60 minutes, covering stability, integrity and thermal insulation. It was one of the first industrial applications of an insulated steel fire door.
Metal+ Inside: the foundation of every Heinen security door
Today, the Metal+ Inside concept remains the foundation of all security doors produced by the Belgian manufacturer, whether fire-resistant, burglar-resistant, explosion-resistant or fully soundproof. Alongside these, Heinen offers XXL doors, hinged and double-acting doors, as well as custom-engineered doors for exceptional applications.
Performance does not come at the expense of design. Heinen steel doors can be clad in wood or other finishes to blend into any architectural setting. Burglar-resistant doors accept cladding with no loss of performance, while fire-rated doors can also be clad, subject to a site assessment from a certification body, a process Heinen fully supports.
A recent example: Edenya at Pairi Daiza, the world's largest tropical greenhouse, where Heinen supplied a complete range of doors, including underwater room doors designed to withstand the pressure of a water column should an aquarium wall fail.
A business model designed to ensure on-site performance
A door only performs as well as it is installed. That is why Heinen Doors does not install its products directly, but relies on a network of qualified partners trained by its own teams, or on installers who meet strict requirements.
Heinen invests significantly in partner training, covering product knowledge, installation best practices and applicable standards. By combining product excellence, technical rigour, strict compliance and close cooperation with installers and specifiers, this model contributes to the successful delivery of every project Heinen supports.
A long-term investment
When safety, security and durability matter, a high-performance door is not a cost, it is an investment. Heinen Doors BIM objects are available on BIMobject, so architects and specifiers can integrate Heinen solutions from the very first design stage.
