Edenya, Pairi Daiza (Belgium): Heinen doors in the world’s largest tropical greenhouse

Opened in February 2026 after five years of construction involving more than 100 companies, Edenya holds two Guinness World Records: largest tropical greenhouse and largest indoor zoological ecosystem. Under a 4-hectare glass roof (1,320 tonnes of steel), this €215 million project houses 230 animal species, two aquariums totalling 10,000 m³ of water and 88 immersive accommodations, including 28 underwater rooms.

With permanent tropical humidity, animals, heavy visitor flows and 5,000 m² of technical rooms, every door had to combine performance, durability and seamless integration. At Edenya, the architecture lets technology disappear behind beauty, and the doors had to follow the same rule.

Heinen Doors Belgium supplied XXL doors, standard hinged doors, double-acting swing doors, room doors and access doors for technical rooms.

The most technical of all: the underwater room doors. Should an aquarium wall fail, they must withstand the pressure of a water column and contain the flooding. These custom doors demonstrate Heinen’s ability to meet specifications with no equivalent.

Steel performance, wood aesthetics: the doors were clad in wood to blend into the setting. Burglar-resistant doors accept wood cladding with no loss of performance. Fire-rated doors can also be clad, subject to a site assessment from a certification body, a process Heinen Doors fully supports.

When failure is not an option, a high-performance door is a long-term investment. Strength, safety, durability in humid environments and design freedom: that is what Heinen Doors brings to every project
